Buying a Convertible Single to Double Stroller

There aren't many things more exciting than hearing that you're expecting your second child. Making preparations for your family's new baby can be a challenge.

Convertible double prams

A convertible single-to-double stroller is a great choice for those who want a stroller to expand with your family. Tandem (in-line) double prams

As the name suggests the term "twin pram" refers to two bassinets or seats that face one another. Tandem prams are typically smaller than side by side double prams and are easier to manoeuvre through doors and on public transport. However, they don't have enough storage space, and are more difficult to access when both seats are being used in the case of a toddler who is in the front seat.

Some first-time parents opt for tandem strollers to protect their investment in case they have more children with the same age. Our DUO2 pram is a well-known model. It can also be converted to a single stroller if your child is older and outgrows the buggy.

Tandem prams can be found in many designs. For example the infant can be placed in a bassinet that is located at the top of the pram, my babiie stroller while an older child sits on the seat below. Most can also be converted into a travel system with the addition of an automobile capsule that is placed on the top of the seat.

For the ultimate flexibility, a double side-by-side pram lets both children take the ride in tandem and play as they go. This can prevent the two of them from waking up or fighting over toys, while the fact they're seated close to one another means you can easily get through doors and other obstacles easily.

A side-by-side can be an ideal option for grandparents who want to join in the fun - they can both push the kids around and assist with shopping, running errands or attending events. They are usually less expensive than tandem prams, which makes them an excellent choice for grandparents to assist with babysitting.

Single prams

A single pram is only able to allow one seat or a bassinet/carry cot - it is generally suitable from newborn up to around. 4 years old. Many single prams also allow for a toddler board to be attached to the back, so that a second child can sit or stand (depending on the type of toddler board) while you push the stroller forward.

Side by side prams are wider than in-line or tandem double prams, but they are a good option for families with two children of similar age - the children can see and interact with each other from their seats. However, they are less mobile and might not be able to fit through doors as easily as tandem strollers.

Non-convertible side-by-side prams are not usable in single mode - you must purchase a different pram or stroller for your smaller child. They are less expensive and last longer than double strollers that convert because they weren't designed to be used both in single and double mode. The biggest drawback is that your child might quickly outgrow a side-by-side and require a change into a toddler's chair. This can be expensive.
